FLIGHT

The large-scale work “Flight”, by artist Ștefan Radu Crețu, curator Ioana Ciocan, was inaugurated in Marechal Carmona Park in the centre of Cascais, Portugal, with the support of the Municipality of Cascais and the D. Luís I Foundation.

The installation deals with the mythological theme of the firebird. The Phoenix bird is associated with the Sun, although it always appears differently, in different shapes, shades of colour and sizes, so that the image always remains enigmatic. “Flight (Cinnyris geométrica) is a three-dimensional sketch, a visual fiction, in which the fire of rebirth is replaced by a strobe light with a dreamlike effect at dusk. The shape of the bird is framed by a three-dimensional drawing that simulates origami, highlighting the prototypical, undeveloped silhouette as an act of reformation” (Ștefan Radu Crețu).
